This is a literary and artistic sanctuary born out of the shadows of the American Midwest. It is a space dedicated to exploring traumatic childhood experiences, the gravity of addiction, the grueling beauty of recovery, and the discovery of spirituality through creative expression.
This publication exists to anchor and sustain the writing of The Sovereign Seed—an upcoming autobiography written in a raw, Southern Gothic style that investigates how we map panentheism (finding the divine intimately woven through all aspects of creation) onto a fractured human life.
🕊️ The Story Behind the Name
In mid-20th century Oxford, a group of writers gathered in the back room of a pub called The Eagle and Child to read their rough drafts aloud, challenge each other’s philosophies, and sharpen their spirits. They called themselves The Inklings. Among them were C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien.
The Bird and the Baby is a direct nod to that pub, reimagined for those who have walked through hell and used art to pull themselves out.
We do not write or heal in isolation. We need a circle. Those who step behind the paywall to financially champion this work and sit at our community table are known as The Hatchlings—a modern continuation of that historic literary circle.
